There is no use in making me wait
No, this is not the time or the place
So straighten up, and sort out your ways
‘Cause there is no use in making me wait
I loved your smile, littered with lies
Your soul the crook, my heart was the spy
And in the gravel we dug out our names
And by the dawn a ghost you became
A dozen crows lower down
It’s like they know when you’re around
It’s like they know all that’s at stake
And there is no use in making me wait

Goodbye, Absecon
04:07
|
|||
Sing for the madman
Sing for the thief
It’s a shame I’m getting used to
My full time disbelief
Counting the blessings
While I’m still allowed
I just sang eighteen secrets
To a weeknight crowd
And I’ll meet you at the narrows
While December strains
To pull us from a sinkhole
With Basaltic Fangs
And if we somehow make it
Will you walk with me
On the boardwalk with the beggars
Down the orange lit streets?
Goodbye, Absecon
As the guards pass through the turnstile
For another night
In the distance I hear the sandbar
Fighting with the tide
And I woke up in the lobby
To a world turned black and white
And I thought about the gloaming
And the peace in my brother’s eyes
Goodbye, Absecon

Bloody Boxer
02:14
|
|||
It has come to me that my dignity
And my darkest insecurities have met
Like two birds face off on some power line
Pissed, tired and unwilling to turn back
And nothing hurts like the quiet
And there’s no healing like moonlight
I am accustomed to this battle every night
And long ago, my mother taught
Me about the crucial act of simply showing up
And though I’ll fail, I’ll try my best
To replicate her unrelenting love
And the time it throttles forwards
And human folly pushes back
Like a boxer full of nothing left to lose
And the bout feels neverending
Until the judges call the fight
I am accustomed to this battle every night
I am accustomed to this battle every night

El Capitán

Won’t you call your actions down?
A race for our November crown
And travel right on out to me
We are new to this velocity
And if anyone could bring it true
My guess is anyone just might be you
What a savage run that we are on
With our patience stretched
And you and me gone
It is in the soil on this blessed night
It stains the sky at evening light
And it lies in wait until the dawn
And its teeth and its smell are never gone
So Captain, won’t you come to me?
We’ll charge alone inherently
Before we twist and come to be
New shards of forever dignity

Bricks To Block The Raid
03:18
|
|||
She said right there “ I‘ll leave you down”
Rattled by the rain
All the streaks of oil on the streets
And tears to wash the stains
And the fires laugh at the moon
Turning inwards just like fools
Unknowing of their doom
My coat and gloves to the floor
Reeking of the day
The thrust of madness at the door
With bricks to block the raid
And the fires, they taunt the moon
Such temporary fools
Unknowing of their doom

Lord, let me live in a house down by the sea
And show a tenderness to everyone I meet
And if the day should come when it’s time
For me to leave
Let it be you the terms that I keep
Time, Let me feel the sweet touch of your release
Let it work in ways of order and of peace
With the wind and with the sun
My good morning has begun
I will walk with confidence and with a calm
With scissors and a lock
By the water and the rock
With the memory of family and me
Or could it be that I’ve Everything I want?
That I’m in some happiness I looked for long?
And if that day has come, let it wash over me
Let me stand there in the light and forever be
Time, please do the sweet touch of your release
Let it flow in ways that I have never seen

Dear To The Assassin
02:53
|
|||
Honey, there is nothing I can give you
There is nothing I can do for you today
There is nothing I can show you
And so you must accept some other way
You are weaving through the season
It’s a walk among thieves
You are dear to the assassin
And so that’s how it has come to be
And it took a while to know you
And even still it sometimes moves
To something not quite settled
To something less than true
Honey, there is nothing I can tell you
Not a word as we do part
So show me now you’re leaving
Show me now, your famous heart
Show me now, your famous heart
Show me now, your famous heart

Trouble
02:48
|
|||
You did your share with Colorado
And had your Dalliance in the East
Devouring all these friends that you had
Barely met
Until the names and faces melted into
One peculiar beast
Of bedposts and affairs that you might well regret
And to say I miss your face
Would come up short in painting this
It’s a struggle just to get my sketches down
As I lean across my papers and I slowly fall asleep
And dream about the death of our old town
And I guess sometimes the trouble with it is
The trouble doesn’t trouble me at all
So I wake up in this parking lot, and raise up all
These blinds to a world that just ain’t talking
Much at all
Just consumed by anything that has a password or
A screen, and the place has lots its
Sympathetic core
But there is something to this quiet and these
Silent city streets, and this picture here of you
Walking with me, and the thought of how
It’s probable we will never dance again
And the fact that that’s just how it’s got to be
And I guess sometimes the trouble with it is
The trouble doesn’t trouble me at all

Ocean/Sea
03:04
|
|||
I am ocean, you are sea
And the difference may tangle me
Or maybe it will come to be
That the time will bring some levity
I am river, you are rain
A release within some new refrain
Or a bond amidst persistent strain
Oh, water, water, come again
In the quiet of Nevada night
While the engine cools and the monster sleeps
With a mountain for my company
Or maybe it will bury me
I am frost and you are heat
And the morning brings its gift to thee
So with it just as you please
But bring yourself right back to me
